The European Citizens Initiative for a Water-Smart and Resilience Europe has been launched

Last week marked the official launch of the ECI for a Water-Smart and Resilient Europe campaign! The ECI for a Water-Smart and Resilient Europe is a powerful call to action to ensure that water, a fundamental right, is protected and cherished for generations to come. Over 78% of Europeans believe additional measures are needed to address water-related challenges. Europe is increasingly experiencing the impacts of the global water crisis, grappling with droughts and floods. Previously taken for granted, access to water is now becoming uncertain. Around 10 million people in Europe lack access to safe drinking water. Agriculture, the largest water user, is particularly affected by water scarcity.

The ECI for Water-Smart and Resilient Europe embarks on collecting 1 million signatures to achieve a lasting, positive change for all people of Europe, asking for:

-Water as a strategic standalone priority within the EU framework.
-Development and implementation of dual, complementary policies in all EU policy areas.
-Water resilience and decarbonisation on the same level.
